To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords IV

These are the last pictures(or segment of the fjord tour) I took before heading back to Bergen. And guess what! After 5 hours in the dull, grey, depressing weather, the clouds decided to lift. The sun was then piercing through clouds and finally, I get to see blue skies.

Now, I get the picture of how high the mountains are. The clouds covered about 50% of their height and this certainly showed the magnificence of the fjords. No kidding.

If you noticed, those are glaciers up there. Yes, ICE! I didn’t realise that they existed since the clouds were covering them. Celaka.

This is weird. Rainbow out of nowhere.

Finally, the perfect picture of Bergen. Nice picture too. Hehehe.

We ended up eating Chinese food since Miss Goo haven’t had it for about 7 weeks. The food was okay okay only la. Can’t really compare back to London at least. Hehehe.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords III

Well, basically visiting the watefall, we just headed back to the port and off we went back to Bergen. However, to our amazement, there was sunlight. The ray of hope I have been yearning for the past 2 weeks. Finally, we could see the fjords in their glory.

Now you get to see the peak of the mountains.

More blue skies.

Look at the contours of the mountains. Used to be glaciers around here.

Just had to take a picture of the sun. It’s a rare sight.

Water about 700-900m deep. And very cold too. Don’t play play.

Farm land along the fjords. About 3% of the land in Norway can only be used for agriculture.

Look there!!!

Long waterfall.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords II

Just to note I’m extremely bored now so I shall continue with my trip to Eidfjord.

So after reaching Eidfjord’s port, we took about a 20 minute bus ride to Hardangervidda Nature Centre. It’s the biggest natural park in Norway about 3,500 sq km. So, we had a quick run through of the centre and also we had a 20 min 180 degrees paranomic view video. It was nice.

Reindeer. Well, it’s a stuffed one. :)

Trout. Yum yum.

Sheep on the roof. Serious!!!

Getting closer to Vøringfoss waterfall. Don’t jump lady.

The famous waterfall of Norway, Vøringfoss. It was first discovered in 1860.

Local flowers growing in this area.

The hotel built because of the waterfall.

Their lounge. Though hmmmmmm. Service was quite poor in my opinion.

It is a 182 m free fall waterfall, the tallest waterfall in Europe.

Last picture before we headed back to Eidfjord harbour. All in all, it took 3 hours to visit the place.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords

Our day started at 6.30 a.m because we had to get the bus by 7.30 a.m. Being in Norway on the weekends, the public transport doesn’t start that early. So, staying near the airport isn’t that good for me to reach the bus station(where we get our special bus from), I had to stay in YMCA for just a sleepover. To be honest, I nearly died staying there not to be spoilt here. But sleeping with 16 other people isn’t exactly peaceful.

Anyway, being groggy with like no sleep at all, we headed off and luckily we managed to take the bus to our port, Nordheimsund because the bus had its header heading towards Oslo. Well, we decided to ask the driver and it said, ‘Yep’ and phew. So, that’s when our journey began. Oh ya, thanks to my backup food i.e. cheese bread, we had that for breakfast because most of the bakeries weren’t opened yet. So poor Xin Yi was starving and we had it.

Our bus ride took 1 1/2 hours and finally we reached the port. I was feeling sick then because the road was whindy road and I get car/bus motion sickness quite easily. Put don’t worry, I didn’t go emptying my guts that fast. :)

The weather wasn’t kind to us either. It was cloudy, grey and basically against us. To be honest, it is really harsh to be living here. It can rain for 90 days non-stop here. I think I’m beginning to like London’s weather now.

Let the adventure begin to the Gateway to the Norwegian Fjords.

So, off we go.

Not my happiest moment but can la because it was very cold, wet and I was tired. :P

This first hotel in Norway in 1722.

Xin Yi. Her hair doesn’t look too good. Lol. But seriously, it was very windy. It’s due to the geography of the fjords and the surrondings. I could go on with my Aero stuff about it but shall keep it as a relaxing no-brainer outing. :P

Look at the amount of mist and rain.

The sun was struggling to pierce through the skies.

The first sight of a clear sky which of course didn’t last for 10 minutes. :(

Potter Mania

Okay la. This might sound sad that I went to the launch of the new Harry Potter book by myself but wei, I’m so bored here la!!! Not to mention, I swore that I would make it for a launch of a Harry Potter book if I’m in the UK and I did it. I would have done it back in Malaysia at 7 a.m but I don’t think my Mom would be too please with me. :)

Anyway, it was pretty exciting to see many people queueing up for nearly 2 days to get a hold of a copy. I myself will be waiting for my book in the post. I have to give to my sister to read it first because she is on a busy time schedule that she has to read it first. After that, I have the whole week to read it before I head off to Norway.

I was at Borders at Oxford Circus about 1 1/2 hours early and took my time reading the old Potter books and had a nice cup of Starbucks. The atmosphere was quite wizardy even there was a painter to paint faces. Obviously, I didn’t get a lighting bolt on my forehead okay. I’m NOT that crazy. And besides I’m old already(Cough all you like people!!!)

People camping.

Harry Potter.

They were the first to queue for nearly 2 days. Hardcore man.

Wand duelling. Kekeke.

Some entertainment.

Witches. Though one has the Sorting Hat.

Mad rush to get it.

From Gryffindor.

And the book itself.

After 15 minutes, the queue was still at Oxford Circus tube station. Yikes.

Fishing Trip

This is one thing I haven’t done although I come from Terengganu. Fishing. I have always wanted to do fishing but never had the guts of doing it. So came along my phD friend, Muk Chen, organising the trip and so I took this opportunity to start my fishing adventure. As the famous Chinese proverb says ‘Fish for a man, you can feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish and he can feed himself forever.’ So powerful!

Anyway, we started off by getting the life jackets from the Fire Station(which is also another first for me to go into a Fire Station. How jakun can I be. You learn something new everyday. :P ) and headed off to the pier. Our first catch started a bit small. Just getting 4 tiny Torsk(Cod) fish. After feeling a bit disappointed, we moved to deep waters.

Ahhhhhhhh. That was where things got exciting. Everyone got 2 fish easily and then more came. The sizes were bigger too. But there was a price to pay. The weather wasn’t that kind to us. The waves were quite choppy. So, after my last catch(I caught the biggest one which was about 3 kgs. :D ) we headed back. The sea showed us no mercy making it a seriously bumpy right.

Luckily after 1 hour 20 minutes of enduring the vicious pounding and lashing of her wrath, we landed safely back in the pier. I SURVIVED! I thought I was going to die at one point. Fortunately, I was a bit nausea after all of that. But I pitied Muk Chen and SS. They were really sick. I don’t think I want to go into the details but it wasn’t pretty.

So all in all, it was quite good fun. But, this won’t happen anytime soon. Hehehe. I just took the smallest and one large Cod for my own consumption because I can’t really cook for so much and besides, I’m leaving in a month’s time.

Our first batch. The small ones.

This was my catch. :) 3 kgs.

Big Momma. Muahahahaha. What should I call it?

Now we are talking about 20 over Cods here. :D

The eye of the storm. Well, that was only the clear patch in the sky. Scary.

Me safe and sound back in the pier. I looked a bit pale myself.

Daniel and me.

Muk Chen, XYZ, Jose, me and SS.

p/s: That’s his name. XYZ. Xiang Yuan Zhou. Not the XYZ-axis okay!

Sunset at Kensington Gardens

This was taken on Tuesday. Sorry for the late post. I was busy going everywhere in London. Anyway, Siew Ping ‘gila-gila’ wanted to go to the park to see the sunset. So, since I was around the corner I followed her. Of course her pictures were nicer than mine but I do try. :)

Sunset.

Facing east.

Facing west.

A plane was passing by.

Facing north.

Siew Ping and I. An end to the day.

Not to mention we woke up at 6 a.m the next day for sunrise but it was quite cloudy. Sigh. Sayang my beauty sleep. Hahaha.

To Town

Well, the beginning to a new week was a crap. All the data I processed yesterday were screwed and apparently I’m defying the rules of physics here. Talking about being a genius here! Being stressed out, I took half the day off and I went to town to get some chinese groceries like some vegetarian tin food to go with my porridge(don’t know why I’m crazy with porridge over here and I know my Mom will kill me if she found out I have been eating so much tin food), bitter gourd(I know many will not eat this but hey, it is good for health you know) and a big box of Yeo’s soya bean drink. I felt a bit rich today because I found out I just used up about 35% of my funds after being 2 months here which I think it is quite okay.

After a 10 minute shopping-spree in the chinese shop, I went around to the centre of town to get some pictures since the day was perfectly clear. So here are some shots I took.

Statue of the first king of Norway. A big Viking I have to say.

City square. Actually, there is a skate rink around there but it was being demolished. I was surprised that the rink was naturally frozen in winter for the ice skaters.

Town hall. About 600-700 years old. Trondheim is the first capital of Norway in 999.

And the church where the king gets coronated all the time until today.

After that, I continued work at home and now I’m just hoping that I get things moving again since as I mentioned before the wind tunnel is being used by someone else. As for now, I will be designing the vortex generators for the wing to delay the separation. Hehehe. Once again, I’m talking all these aero jargon. Oh well, I hope it goes well tomorrow with I see my Prof.
Fingers crossed.

A Journey Back Home

After a long day’s work with my wing, I decided(with Arne – my Norway colleague) to walk back to Moholt. This is would be my first walk back from college because I usually take the bus. To tell you the truth, it is only 4 bus stops away. Yes yes. I know. It is absolutely lazy of me not walking to college every day since it is about a 15 minutes walk but hey, it is very slippery since there is always snow on the ground. So, since I haven’t ‘explored’ the entire NTNU after my department building, I gave it a try.

Quite an interesting name I must say. It reads ‘Realfagbygget’. No idea what that means but it sounds ermmmm nice. Me dunno.

I think this is their Mech Eng building because there are some heavy machineries in the left building.

And this is the hill I was going to walk up.

A view of Trondheim.

But to all of that, I saw a bus coming and took it home. Opssss. Journey back home was kinda cut short. Next time in the summer I suppose I will be making the full journey home. Besides, I’m very tired today. I over slept by 2 hours. Eeeeeeekksssss. Rushed like mad to uni because I had so much things to do. Do note that the hill is a steep one. My ears get blocked when the bus goes over the hill. So it would be an extremely tired walk! :)
