Malaysian

Today is utterly boring. So, no harm in me writing a tiny post. Today is my first time meeting up with a co worker Malaysian. Hurray. She works in Schlumberger(they are part of my office building) and is from Melaka. Why everyone from Melaka one. Hahaha. Good to know that they are some Asians here. I heard there is a Singaporean girl somewhere too.

Another thing about Norwegians is that they drink a lot of coffee. They just drink for the sake of drinking. Quantity over quality. I took a sip of their mocha and nearly pengsan. These people ah.

Oh well, back to my Drilling Fluids Technical Manual.

p/s: Can I request the presence of Siew Ping to teach me Chemistry please? I, so need a tutorial on the subject. And you are quite free right. It has been a looooooong time I have done that subject. Okay la. Old already. T_T

The Office

This is my office. Well, temporary anyway until this manager comes back from his holiday. Oh well, I should max my time in there then. :D The table is quite cool. It is height-adjustable. And also, the room is light-automated too.

Sitting mode. If you feel your bum is too heavy.

And standing mode.

Weekend

Yay! The weekend is here and wow time passes quite fast though the duration was long and boring. Tomorrow, I will meet up with Xin Yi for dinner and explore the city centre.

Time for catch up on sleep though I get about 6-7 hours a day. :P

Talking From Work

Okay. I might be abusing this but seriously, there is nothing for me to do now. I have been reading manuals(not much really) and annual reports of the other companies which deals with my company. It is quite interesting to see why a company has a lower revenue compared to other years etc. However, I do get lost with the jargon their throw out in the accounting side.

Anyway, the person who is suppose to give me the simulation project just got in today will(hopefully) will send me a well which has been done and I can compare my simulation to the others. So, now at least I don’t feel guilty about yesterday not doing anything. He is currently busy and I still have no idea how to pronounce people’s name. They have Å, Ø, Æ at the front, middle and end of their names which makes it canggih yet a tongue-twister.

As for today, I was late for work because of the road being too busy. Yes yes. That’s not an excuse but there isn’t a pedestrian cross anywhere and I had to go all the way up(about 50 metres) to cross the road. Not that I suck in crossing the road but the road has 4 lanes. How to cross when it’s rush hour!?!? Not to mention is was raining.

Ah yes. The room I’m in is extremely cold. I have no idea why the air con is at full blast. Yes on Monday it was quite warm about 25 degrees but now it is like 14 degrees outside but it feels like 8 degrees. Those who know me I like the cold but when I say it’s cold it is REALLY cold. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I have to roll down my sleeves.

Talking about shirts, it seems attire wear here is very casual. People come in with polo shirts with jeans. You gotta love engineering firms. I think most of the people in engineering usually are quite casual. It isn’t like those working in the city.

Well, I suppose I have to get more research done or read more about the industry I’m in now.

First Day at Work

What can I say for working in a proper proper work. Well, I arrived at 8 a.m sharp to find the entire building empty. People here start work at 8 a.m. So, I waited for my manager to come in just to find out that he took half a day off to go for his kindergarten open day.

Taking the opportunity to go to town to do my work permit(which by the way, was screwed up. They sent it to Stavanger instead of Bergen. I knew this would happen.) Anyway, I just semi lost coming back because the bus heading back to my hotel was a different number all together. So, I was sent on a wild goose chase finding the right bus. Finally, I decided to call the hotel for directions and they told me the correct number.

Once again, I’m back in the office and my manager, Atle was in. He showed me around the building which was I think new. All the equipments looks new. All the rooms with light sensors. The most canggih thing is the table able to jack up or down. You could either sit or stand if you wish. Hehehe. The mouse was a joystick. Oh well, I suppose I have to get used to it.

So, now the software they are using to drill all of this stuff is outstanding. The simulation goes through a live data coming from the operation from the oil rigs somewhere out in the world. I need to know the software quite well to help out with their projects. Looks very interesting. But now I need to know all their jargon which has crazy with their abbreviations.

I think I can see this stuff in the future. Well, time to get my game on.

Anxious

Well, I suppose everyone will feel this feeling for starting something new especially starting a new job. This would be my real ‘first’ time working and yea just be confident about it. I just need a kick start for this new phase of my life.

Summer Job

Thursday. Something that I didn’t expect to happen. I was ‘busy’ doing my work and I received a call from Mi-Swaco. It’s an oil and gas company which deals with fluid engineering. They weren’t sure whether I’m qualified because my major is aero and nothing much deals with oil and gas. But I should be able to apply all my fluid mechanics in this sector. GO AERO! :D

Now, this is really a challenge. It is going to be for 2 months and will be in Stavanger or Bergen. I hope I can overcome this. Wish me luck. Once again. It is Norway.

p/s: New Label – Job. I want to retire already. :P
