The True Bergen

Finally, the past 3 days, Bergen has been blessed with a flawless blue sky. Of course I went after working hours and strolled the city. I couldn’t miss the opportunity that the sky was just blue. Now, it has already started raining and it is going to be raining all week long.

So, what can we see from this pictures I have taken.

Bergen Museum.

See people actually do try to soak up the sun as much as possible.

Lille Lungegårdsvannet.

The houses of Bryggen.

I’m trying to copy the postcard. Same or not? :)

One of the oldest houses here but as you can see it is used for McDonald’s. Oh wow!

City hall which is still used till today.

And a nice fire station. Used about 100 years already.

Well, after all of that I went to T.G.I. Friday’s(Yes I know they have one here and I’m loving this city every minute) for dinner and had a mud pie. Overkill with the chocolate. Hehehe.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords IV

These are the last pictures(or segment of the fjord tour) I took before heading back to Bergen. And guess what! After 5 hours in the dull, grey, depressing weather, the clouds decided to lift. The sun was then piercing through clouds and finally, I get to see blue skies.

Now, I get the picture of how high the mountains are. The clouds covered about 50% of their height and this certainly showed the magnificence of the fjords. No kidding.

If you noticed, those are glaciers up there. Yes, ICE! I didn’t realise that they existed since the clouds were covering them. Celaka.

This is weird. Rainbow out of nowhere.

Finally, the perfect picture of Bergen. Nice picture too. Hehehe.

We ended up eating Chinese food since Miss Goo haven’t had it for about 7 weeks. The food was okay okay only la. Can’t really compare back to London at least. Hehehe.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords III

Well, basically visiting the watefall, we just headed back to the port and off we went back to Bergen. However, to our amazement, there was sunlight. The ray of hope I have been yearning for the past 2 weeks. Finally, we could see the fjords in their glory.

Now you get to see the peak of the mountains.

More blue skies.

Look at the contours of the mountains. Used to be glaciers around here.

Just had to take a picture of the sun. It’s a rare sight.

Water about 700-900m deep. And very cold too. Don’t play play.

Farm land along the fjords. About 3% of the land in Norway can only be used for agriculture.

Look there!!!

Long waterfall.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords II

Just to note I’m extremely bored now so I shall continue with my trip to Eidfjord.

So after reaching Eidfjord’s port, we took about a 20 minute bus ride to Hardangervidda Nature Centre. It’s the biggest natural park in Norway about 3,500 sq km. So, we had a quick run through of the centre and also we had a 20 min 180 degrees paranomic view video. It was nice.

Reindeer. Well, it’s a stuffed one. :)

Trout. Yum yum.

Sheep on the roof. Serious!!!

Getting closer to Vøringfoss waterfall. Don’t jump lady.

The famous waterfall of Norway, Vøringfoss. It was first discovered in 1860.

Local flowers growing in this area.

The hotel built because of the waterfall.

Their lounge. Though hmmmmmm. Service was quite poor in my opinion.

It is a 182 m free fall waterfall, the tallest waterfall in Europe.

Last picture before we headed back to Eidfjord harbour. All in all, it took 3 hours to visit the place.

To The Gateway of Norwegian Fjords

Our day started at 6.30 a.m because we had to get the bus by 7.30 a.m. Being in Norway on the weekends, the public transport doesn’t start that early. So, staying near the airport isn’t that good for me to reach the bus station(where we get our special bus from), I had to stay in YMCA for just a sleepover. To be honest, I nearly died staying there not to be spoilt here. But sleeping with 16 other people isn’t exactly peaceful.

Anyway, being groggy with like no sleep at all, we headed off and luckily we managed to take the bus to our port, Nordheimsund because the bus had its header heading towards Oslo. Well, we decided to ask the driver and it said, ‘Yep’ and phew. So, that’s when our journey began. Oh ya, thanks to my backup food i.e. cheese bread, we had that for breakfast because most of the bakeries weren’t opened yet. So poor Xin Yi was starving and we had it.

Our bus ride took 1 1/2 hours and finally we reached the port. I was feeling sick then because the road was whindy road and I get car/bus motion sickness quite easily. Put don’t worry, I didn’t go emptying my guts that fast. :)

The weather wasn’t kind to us either. It was cloudy, grey and basically against us. To be honest, it is really harsh to be living here. It can rain for 90 days non-stop here. I think I’m beginning to like London’s weather now.

Let the adventure begin to the Gateway to the Norwegian Fjords.

So, off we go.

Not my happiest moment but can la because it was very cold, wet and I was tired. :P

This first hotel in Norway in 1722.

Xin Yi. Her hair doesn’t look too good. Lol. But seriously, it was very windy. It’s due to the geography of the fjords and the surrondings. I could go on with my Aero stuff about it but shall keep it as a relaxing no-brainer outing. :P

Look at the amount of mist and rain.

The sun was struggling to pierce through the skies.

The first sight of a clear sky which of course didn’t last for 10 minutes. :(

Bergen III

Okay. After returning to the city from out tour, we decided to visit an open-air museum in Gamla Bergen where it show cased how the Norwegians lived in Bergen. It was quite pretty and cute all together. To our surprise, they were having a special family day event there. So yes, you can imagine that there will be a lot of kiddies.

Rows of houses on a steep hill.

Behind the cashiers counter.

A cruise ship in Bergen.

After about 1 hour there, we took the local bus back again to the city and since it was like 5 p.m, we decided to roam free. We went to the old and church. Sorry guys, I forgot its name. :P

The castle.

The church.

Xin Yi and I.

Bryggen. These are rows of houses along the harbour. They are also protected by UNESCO for wooden houses which managed to last this long.

It’s a moose!!!

Downtown Bergen.

Well, it was an exhausting day and we ended up in T.G.I Friday’s for a llght dinner since we were full from lunch(I’m amazed actually I wasn’t that hungry yet :D ).

Bergen I

So, this is my first outing into Bergen. I had a ‘long lost friend’ i.e. Xin Yi coming to Bergen for a week to sightsee. I a, quite happy because this would be someone familiar and basically a friendly face. Xin Yi also agreed after being away or isolated from Malaysians for 6-7 weeks, it is definitely ecstatic to know a true Malaysian does exist in Norway. :P

Anyway, we visited Bergen the old tourist fashion way. We went on a bus tour which took us to important places like Edvard Grieg’s house(a famous Norwegian composer) and to a National State church which was burnt down by Satanist. Quite scary.

Anyhow, we enjoyed the tour and went to the local fish market where it was a seafood galore. From crabs to mussels. You name it they have it. I think they also have whale. We got a big sandwich of seafood and a crab cake. Yummy.

Port of Bergen.

This is a Monkey something Tree. Imported from Chile.

On the way to Edvard Grieg’s house.

His tiny house. Cute but nice and very scenic.

The view over looking from his house. His house was on a peninsular.

His grave.

Another house with grass. :)

Mr Edvard Grieg himself and actually. 5 feet he was. Very short. :P

The mini house he built where he wrote/composed his songs.

And here was our bus taking us around Bergen.

Surrey Day

Well, I planned to go down to see Shea Maine before we both head off to both sides of the world. It was a relaxing day where Shea Maine made ‘Toad in the Hole’ with Caesars Salad. Then we went to watch Transformers again. Yea I know. I’m obsessed with it. :P

The golf ball in Uni of Surrey.

Some random thingy. :)

Wimbledon

FINALLY!!! After being in this country for 6 years, I managed to watch the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. It was really a spontaneous trip to go down to Wimbledon and watch tennis. I would say this would be my first time watching a live game sport. I’m naturally a lazy person not doing any sports. But hey, I do enjoy watching GOOD sports. :)

So, basically Changyong wanted to do this before he heads back to Singapore for good and since the event was around the corner, we said let’s go. Our journey to Wimbledon was short and to my amazement, it was very well organised. They have bus services to the courts and taxis too at a flat rate. Well, since I’m still young I think it would be wise to use the youth in me to walk. :P

The queue for the tickets weren’t existent and after a debate we decided to buy tickets for Court 2 seating tickets. It was 31 pounds. I know it sounds a bit expensive but hey, it is once in a life time to watch it.

So our first match was Ana Ivanovic versus Nadia Petrova. We were slightly late as we missed out 5 sets but it was all good. The next 2 games were spectacular. I couldn’t believe the difference watching a tennis game at home compared watching it live. My heart was beating so fast and the adrenaline as a spectator was just intense.

Well, if you watched that match, I was on TV. Just look out for a person in grey jacket with a blue t-shirt. :)

Centre Court. They don’t have a roof this year.

Court 2. But then it rained a lot which disrupted play. :(

Ana Ivanovic serves. Cantik!!! :P

Changyong and I at Court 2. Our seats were the second row from the court. So good. :P

Ana Ivanovic which I supported won. :P
The second match was Nicolas Kiefer against Novak Djokovic. There is big difference when the gentlemen play. The ball goes much faster and the strength they have. Waaaaaaaaaaah!

Nicolas Kiefer.

Novak Djokovic.

Everyone finding for shelter as there was thunder and lighting. :)

Inflated balloon to keep the grass dry. I didn’t know they had this feature.

Pee ka booo. :P

We were suppose to watch this match but it was cancelled to the shit weather. So close yet so far. :(

We at Court 3 now. Hated the stupid French kids behind us.

Double rainbow if you can see if it. But to my surprise, I didn’t know rainbow can have 2 types of colour series’. Like the rainbow on the left is from Blue to Red and the right is from Red to Blue. Cool. :P

And our day ended. Though it was just for only than 2 hours. :(

Oh yea, I had Cornish Pasty and a Pimp while I had fish and chips for dinner. All in all, this trip or outing was very nice. I spent it with a good buddy and the games were nice to watch. So, I think this is one of the things I would have watch before I die and I did. :P

Riverdance

One word describes this show. FANTASTIC. I don’t think even that word does it justice. I have been mesmerised by it and it is just not an ordinary tapping dance.

Actually, it was really spontaneous for me to book the last ticket they had and go to Oxford on Saturday. The traffic was horrible going there as I went during rush hour but I really didn’t know that Oxford is really pretty. It has been a long time I have been there. Oh well, there is always time to go there I suppose.
